You just don’t know who to trust nowadays do you?
That’s what folks are saying about one of the biggest if not the biggest academic scandal in US history as investigators have found that the much vaunted Atlanta, Georgia school system has had dozens of principals and teachers, changing the test scores of children to make the school district look good and prevent it from being phased out.
The cheating is so immense that it warranted a two year investigation which caught 38 principals cooking the books and around 178 educators in all pleading the Fifth Amendment. 82 educators confessed to a number of cheating examples.
The report found that the district had cheating going back as far as 2001 and that anyone who tried to bring the problem to light got bullied or fired.
The head of the APS, Beverly Hall claims to have known nothing of the cheating although she was head of the educational system there. She did however appear on television admonishing the practice and that justice would be served.
However, Atlanta isn’t the only city where such cheating has been uncovered. Baltimore, Norfolk, Va, Philadelphia, Washington, DC and other districts have been busted with cheating or are under investigations.
It says a lot about the reasons why kids can’t get jobs when they don’t have the educations they need because those entrusted with their education decide to cheat on their own greedy behalves instead of having the children’s interests as foremost.
If convicted of such cheating scams the suspects could face 10 years or more in prison.
