Sally Kern: Black People Earn Less Because They Don’t Work Hard

Sometimes one wonders how some people actually get elected to office and in the case of Oklahoma Representative Sally Kern, one might have a double wonder.

Kern spoke out over a debate regarding ridding affirmative action from the state of Oklahoma.

Kern actually stated that blacks don’t do as well as whites because blacks don’t want to work as hard. She also stated women wanted more leisure time that’s why they didn’t make as much as men.

She spoke about her experiences as a teacher and how she’d seen people of color not wanting to work as hard and that they wanted things given to them. After Rep. Kern realized how dumb her comments were she started backtracking fast, apologizing about her statements.

She said, “I want to humbly apologize for my statements last night about African Americans and women. I believe that our government should not provide preference based on race or gender.”

Basically Kern put her foot in her mouth and tried to get out of it. However it didn’t change the new Oklahoma constitutional amendment which did pass the house by a 59-14 vote. Their senate had already passed the amendment and it citizens will vote on it in 2012. If signed into law it would eliminate affirmative action in state government there.

With all the problems Oklahomans have already, having Kern representing them says they may deserve those problems.
