Dwayne McDuffie Died

A legendary comedian and advocate for the fair portrayals of people of color has recently died. Dwayne McDuffie, the founder of Milestone Media, as well as a comic writer and animation producer, recently passed away after having complications arise from a surgical procedure that he underwent on Monday evening, February 21.

McDuffie was a native of Detroit, Michigan, and was most well-known for the way he fought the stereotypes of the portrayal of people of color and different races in comics and the media.

His career as a comic writer began in the late 80s, when he got a job as one of the Marvel Comics’ editorial team.

Later on in his life, he became a comic writer and founded Milestone Media—a corporation whose main goal in life was to make sure that minorities were not exploited and their roles expanded, in the comic world, as well as in the whole industry.

Milestone Media introduced different comic characters such as Static, Icon, and Xombi in the world of DC Comics.

One of his final career achievements took place when he began working on animation. He most recently worked on the animation adaptation of ‘All Star Superman’.
