Malcolm Lee Slams Tyler Perry

Another day another beef has popped up on the internet.

This time around the people who are feuding are not rappers, but two well known and well respected African- American film directors.

After Spike Lee blasted Tyler Perry few months ago for degrading black people, his cousin Malcolm Lee who is not afraid to share his thoughts with the world, has decided to take few shots at the Madea director.

The Best Man director recently did an interview with BET’s Clay Cane during the film’s reunion where he was asked his opinion on his fellow director and his impressive imprint on the box office.

The filmmaker started out with some nice words for Perry saying:

“Tyler Perry is a very shrewd businessman. This dude has built an empire off of what he does and people support him.”

And continued with some harsher remarks:

“I have to admit, I enjoy some Madea. Madea’s funny to me. All the other stuff and the morality tales, I could do without. Just bring me more Madea!”

Lee who apparently only makes films that elevate the black culture went to slam the hit maker saying:

“It’s not as terrible as people say it is, but it’s not as good as the box office numbers are. Just because something makes money doesn’t mean it’s good, it’s just popular, it taps into something people respond to. I don’t do what he does. He’s not interested in art, he’s interested in turning out a product. There is value in that, building up a studio and being independent. I wish he would get better as the movies go on. Maybe he will, I don’t know, but I don’t think that is his focus right now.”

What are your thoughts on the latest feud?

Does it have anything to do with Perry’s envious success?

Do you think Tyler Perry should reply to Malcolm Lee’s remarks?

  1. Spike and Malcolm both should focus on their interests and quit HATING. It is the perception and assumption on the part of both these “not allllllllll that competent” filmakers ” that Tyler might be bi-sexual that irks these brothers.
I don’t know a filmmaker that would not want that type of success or notoriety,. No matter how obscure or well known the subject matter or the characters, the bottom line is still a part of t he equation. SO SHUT UP MALCOLM with the backhanded compliments. LAUGH ON TO THE BANK TYLER-WE LOVE YOU.

  2. Who cares what the Lee men think? Instead of putting the man down, praise him for the success he has had.
