In a wide-ranging interview Wednesday with NBC’s “Today” host Matt Lauer, First Lady Michelle Obama opened up about some personal aspects of her family’s life in the White House.
Obama told Lauer that her daughters Malia, 12, and Sasha, 9, aren’t allowed to use the ultra-popular social networking site Facebook. Obama said she is “not a fan of young kids having Facebook.”
Separate from the security issues that would be involved with the girls using Facebook, it’s “not something they need. It’s not necessary right now.”
As the interview progressed, Obama went on to answer a question regarding a rumor that her husband, President Barack Obama, was dying his hair. The answer: “No.”
Michelle Obama told Lauer that President Obama has overcome his smoking habit and she hasn’t seen him partake of a cigarette in over a year.
In response to criticism of the White House Superbowl party menu that included chicken wings and deep dish pizza – Michelle Obama has been an outspoken advocate for healthy eating and ending obesity – the First Lady said in “moderation” those foods are OK.
Lauer returned the conversation to the Facebook issue and quipped whether Michelle Obama would let her girls out of “the bubble” by the time they are 40.
“Maybe, we’ll talk about it,” Obama said, laughing.
