Detroit, Michigan police have finally released what’s said to be a dramatic video of the shootout with gunman Lamar Moore inside their police station which ended with four injured officers and Moore’s own death.
On January 23, 2011 Moore entered the police station and approached the desk and then opened fire on the unsuspecting officers. Return fire erupted as Moore leaped over the counter and pressed his attack. The gunfire raged on at point blank range until finally Moore collapsed and died.
Ralph Godbee who is Chief of Police of Detroit spoke to the press and public to express why the video was released and it’s due to his wanting the public to see the incident and the courage and sacrifice that the officers under attack displayed.
It’s still uncertain what motivated Moore to commit his bloody rampage but speculation is that he was under investigation for a crime involving a 13-year-old girl.
It’s also reported that Moore’s home had been visited by police several hours earlier before the rampage. Also reported that Moore’s home was the subject of a severe fire, perhaps arson.
Fortunately none of the officers shot in the confrontation were killed and all have been released from the hospital for their wounds.
