Savon Huggins Picks Rutgers

Rutgers is widely expected to have the team’s running game prodded to live with addition of tailback Savon Huggins.

Huggins committed to The State University of New Jersey Scarlet Knights on Friday. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound tail back, that hails from St. Peters Preparatory School, in New Jersey, chose Rutgers over Notre Dame and North Carolina.

The cable sports channel ESPN ranks Huggins as the No. 4 running back in his class and No. 28 overall.

He is the class of 2011’s highest ranked player. As a high school senior, Huggins scored 35 touch downs and ran for nearly 2,000 yards.

Joining Huggins is Max Issaka, a top-notch defensive end and New Jersey native as well. Rutgers has shown an ability to successfully recruit this year despite a dismal losing season.

The Scarlet Knights have struggled ever since former team star Ray Rice skipped his senior year to go straight into the NFL.
