A homeless man from Columbus, Ohio has a big dream, and he is hoping that someone is the community will be able to step forward and help him out. Ted Williams is a panhandler who often asks for money with a sign that talks about his “god given gift” of a wonderful speaking voice.
A reporter was intrigued by Williams’ sign, and decided to interview the man and find out just what he was talking about. The reporter posted the video clip online, and it has become a viral hit, displaying the man’s smooth voice that would be at home on any major radio network.
Williams told the reporter about his quest to become a radio announcer, saying, “I just said, well, hey. I can’t be an actor, I can’t be an on-air personality, but the voice just became something of a development over the years and I went to school for it. And then alcohol and drugs and a few other things became a part of my life. I’ve got two years clean, and I’m trying hard to get it back. And hopefully somebody from one of these television or radio stations will say, ‘Hey, I need a voice-over’.”
Late this afternoon a rep for the Cleveland Cavaliers confirmed that have indeed given Ted Williams a job as full-time voiceover man and a free house.
Williams who was thrilled to share the news with the world called WNCI to say:
“The Cleveland Cavaliers just offered me a full-time job and a house! A house! A house!.”
