Carmelo Anthony, nicknamed “Melo,” has emerged as one of the most popular players in the NBA. At 6’8”, he has led the Denver Nuggets to two division titles.
Furthermore, with Anthony on the team, the Nuggets have not missed the playoffs since he joined the Nuggets in 2003,which was his rookie season.
Despite a fairly successful season, particularly on defense, trade speculation has recently surrounded Anthony’s place of the Nuggets.
Amidst the tension regarding his placement on the team, the Nuggets forward now must deal with a family tragedy.
On December 22, 2010, Anthony’s sister, Michelle, died in Baltimore. The reason for her passing was an unspecified pre-existing medical condition.
She leaves behind four children. Anthony has subsequently left the team to be with his family. He has already missed a key game against the San Antonio Spurs and is later expected to miss the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, set on Christmas Day.
Condolences to the Anthony family!
