Although Oprah Winfrey is in her last season of her iconic talk show, it seems that the superstar will not be out of the limelight for long.
Winfrey has decided that it is her turn to get in front of the camera again and will be playing a lead role in the film “Ruined”. This will be her first acting debut since the 1998 film “Beloved”.
Winfrey has been an executive producer for numerous different films, including “Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire”.
She was also the voice of one of the characters in “The Princess and the Frog” and has a guest spot on the television show “30 Rock”.
The film “Ruined” will be adapted from the play by Lynn Nottage, which has won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize and the Drama Desk Awards in 2009.
The story concerns the role and trials of women in the Democratic Republic of Congo during the country’s civil war era.
Winfrey will be playing the role of Madam Mama Nadi, who runs a brothel and attempts to keep herself and her women from getting caught by the government and the rebel armies.
