The nominees for the 2011 Grammy Awards were recently announced during a live concert at the Club Nokia, located in Los Angeles, on December 1. It seems that rapper Eminem has staked his claim in the music world this year, coming in with ten nominations, including the biggest award at the show, Album of the Year.
His album, “Recovery”, is going head to head against “The Suburbs by Arcade Fire, “Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum, “The Fame Monster” by Lady GaGa, and “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry.
The second most nominations went to Bruno Mars, a relative newcomer on the music scene this year. One of his nominations Is for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, which pits him against Michael Buble, Michael Jackson, Adam Lambert, and John Mayer.
The Best New Artist nominees include teen sensation Justin Bieber, as well as Drake, Florence and the Machine, Mumford & Sons, and Esperanza Spalding. Bieber is also competing against Susan Boyle, Lady GaGa, John Mayer, and Katy Perry for the Best Pop Vocal Album.
A few other nominees received votes in numerous categories, including Lady Antebellum, Jay-Z, Miranda Lambert, B.o.B, and Muse. The awards show will air on February 13, 2011.

As usual, they stick one mildly non-mainstream into each category to appease the hipster masses, but there’s no hope of any of them winning. I guess I could live with BP3 winning best rap album, but we all know Em or Drake will take it. I’d still laugh if Arcade Fire won best overall album….they definitely deserve it.

Recovery was by far Eminem’s worst album. Doesn’t surprise me in the least that it got him more grammy nominations than any of the others. And yeah, once like someone else said, I once again see that they went with one “cool” nomination in each category, even though I’m sure they won’t win (this isn’t the best work from Arcade Fire or the Roots, anyway.) Big Boi should have got a nom for best rap album; Sir Lucious Left Foot is the shiz.

Eminem shouldn’t have gotten all these nominations. “Love the Way You Lie” wasn’t that great of a song (sorry to pop your radio-listening bubble). I wish the more alternative artists will have more of a chance instead of the mainstream crap. I’m so happy that Arcade Fire, Esperanza Spalding, and Janelle Monae win, but I’m doubtful for that exact reason. Justin Beiber will not win because Drake will obviously take the award because he’s more prominent, more loved, etc. And everyone asking “where’s Beyonce” or “where’s Taylor Swift”, shut up, Beyonce didn’t do enough this year to be nominated for anything, and last year was a Taylor Swift lovefest so it wouldn’t have been fair, so shut up, you sound so ignorant.
