Bishop Eddie Long SCANDAL: New Revelations About PASTOR Past – Bishop Eddie Long, the pastor who is at the center of a sex abuse controversy, now has another problem to deal with. Documents have leaked from his divorce proceedings. In them, his ex-wife says that he “viciously” abused her and that at one point she had to flee their home for fear of the safety of herself and of their son.
She also details a time when she was 7 months pregnant that he physically beat her, and struck her in the face. Dabara Long, his ex-wife, also said that she was terrified of Eddie and that it took her quite some time to get up the nerve to go through with the divorce, even though their relationship had been over for a long time.
The documents were from 1985. Her time with Long was described as “cruel treatment.” Long’s attorney, Craig Gillen, did not immediately respond to the requests for comment. It will be interesting to hear what he has to say. Long has denied any wrong doing in the sexual abuse lawsuits, which have now amounted to four different individuals that claim that Long showered them in gifts and took them on expensive international vacations while trying to convince them to engage in a sexual relationship with him.
Two plaintiffs have made appearances on local news stations claiming that they were “heart broken” and are unable to forget about the past relationship with Long.

Has any of his followers noticed that he hasn’t even denied having sex with these fellas? There is blame to be distributed, but not to the victims! This man is monster in a robe. He has made a mockery out of everyone who has and continues to stand by him in this mess.
If I ever saw him on t.v., I would always change the channel. I personally could never listen to his message for the way he was dressed. His clothing, always at least one size too small and often shining, screamed way louder than any message coming from his mouth . I mean he has always appeared to me as a text book narcissist, who was totally in love with himself. And if the tight clothes weren’t enough to get him the attention he desperately commanded, he would wear at LEAST!!! three pieces of very bold jewelry to accentuate his very short yet muscular frame.
PLEASE! I knew some things were wrong with the brother, but I did not know that hiding the fact that he was gay was among them. I believe that god made us all and that no one should look down on someone for their sexuality; in my opinion, its just the same type of prejudice that blacks suffered during segregation. But I hate hypocrites with a cruel hatred! How dare he speak out against gay people while being an active participant in gay sex. He uses people and then throws them away. He used those young men and he is using his wife to help keep his cover. Eddie Long you are repulsive! Uuggh!
I don’t know if it’s true or not but one thing i do know is the man of God is annointed and has led many people to the Lord. And if he has done wrong he has to answer to God.

This is not the first big ministry to fail. COTR – Rockwall 11,000 members, yet the mother church no longer exists. Some still wandering around in the wilderness since the early 1990’s meltdown. Don’t give up on God. .He will sustain you……man will not. Pray God will reclaim those scattered by man. The truth does truely set you free!
I really do wish people would stop quoting that phrase “innocent until proven guilty”. That only applies to the court of law…not the court of public opinion.

First let me say that my prayers are with the four young men that were subject to the abuse of there spiritual leader. Let me also say that I feel that the church leaders at New birth should ask the Bishop to step down, and here’s why . The Bible says: timothy ch. 3 v. 2-7 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour,given to hospitality, apt to teach:exc. are you fallowing christ or man i.e the bishop? the word tell us in corinthians ch.6 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?v.2 Do you not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judge by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Jamal Paris stated that he tried to address this matter privately, this was the oppertunity for the ministers to judge this matter according to Gods word.
First off the truth of the matter is , She filed a counter claim after he filed for divorce. Again it was only an allegation. There are no police filings if she was so scared. I bet the court documents didn’t tell you that this same woman that claimed abuse, left her child on this man’s door step by which he gained custody. Why would a woman leave her child with a man that beat her; why would the court give custody to the man if it were proven he beat his ex…And all this happen shortly after the divorce….Lastly, the womans own brother stated he knew nothing of any beatings or abuse and that EL was a good fellow!
If the man is so bad why you have to go 30 years back to dig up some dirt? People will do anything for money….and the media is just trying to damage this mans character…Let the court or the justice system do their due diligence…At this point it is all he say, she say..even the pictures supposedly sent don’t tell the truth…None of us really know the truth..Only he, the accusers and God know….We need to stop judging so much…Is it so hard to believe that may these young men are lying.Just as it is possible he did it, it is just as likely he didn’t!
It’s funny to me nobody has even thought about the young men who are now adults, what difficulties they r dealing with, especially if they r trying to have a normal relationship. What I have to say about this situation is as a believer I am trying not to JUDGE. This can be a test for all of us. I truly hope this is not true but my mind is telling me something else! May God reveal in his time what is TRUE! It will come out ..let us not judge and wait for the facts. I know this is hard because I am struggling with this right now myself! Let time and the investigations have its course. If the man is guilty the people will know. If he is innocent the people will know this too. If he is guilty, let him do his time like anybody else who would commit such a crime. I know he is a Bishop, and God knows what happened. Mr. Long has a big responsibility and will be held accountable for his actions. Whatever justice or injustices man has is no comparison to God’s justice. I do have an opinion, but I will not express it now. Let time have its free course.
Well, I too have my thoughts on this subject, but first I must say that I believe it would be best for me to refrain from stating a conclusion. I feel a need to wait to see where God is in all of this. God is a wonder! Could it be that He is cleaning His house by exposing false prophets or as some say a test of Long? I must admit I am somewhat confused about this because if it’s the latter it kind of goes against what I would believe of God, but I like most is ever learning about the things of God.
I just hope this ordeal is not long drawn out and that the truth is revealed!’ I must say that those young men are very convincing, though.
This false prophet thing is kind of too close to home for me, I got one at my church and I want to be sure that this fact does not affect my views.
All I can say is Eddie Long needs to step down now. I have a feeling there are a lot of meetings going on behind closed doors at New Birth, if not then there needs to be. Eddie long has been exposed. Those young men are not lying…watch the interviews. They are telling us what they have truly lived through over the pass years and I feel sorry for them. First no father, and now a monster that took advantage of them. Between the pictures Eddie Long took of himself and the interviews with Jamal and Spencer, and Longs message on Sunday, Long can forget it. Anyone that cannot see through Eddie’s lies is blind. Now I see why he refused to turn over the Church’s financial record to that Senator…He has been spending Church money for his own personal gain, for sex and no telling what else.

I pray for the members, that they remove the blinders off their eyes and see him for what he really is.They made him their God, you see they were following the CREATURE instead of the CREATOR and when you do that, when we take our eyes off Christ anything can come into the church and people will follow it.My church just went through something similar only he was with a woman and church members videoed him in the Hotel with the woman and the blind members took him back, and he later took all our money, he was then relieved of his duties, but they left us and he began a new church and they are with him. If I did’nt do it I would still be shouting it to the rooftops ” I did not do this I am innocent”!! A real man of God would step down , other wise this will destroy the church. My father’s compassions fail not. This is an urgent call for a church that at the very least may not have “beyond a reasonable doubt” proof but “clear and convincing evidence” to conduct an internal investigation of inappropriate behavior, whether called for by a member or the media. I am afraid that nondenominational churches may not be the best place of worship if you can’t do God’s business and run God’s church. Where is the leadership at New Birth? Eddie’s church can not stand if the church leadership won’t protect the people who worship Eddie Long therein. Christians worship God and Christians have both authority and responsibility as believers of Christ. Israel’s cycle: SIN/REBELLION, REPENTANCE, RECONCILIATION TO GOD.
I truly believe that wether its true or not it brings shame on the church. We have to understand that GOD has never been about the numbers, so for some to say this could never have happened because of the flock he had are mistaken. The BIBLE speaks of a “proud spirit before a fall”, we as people tryng to make heaven , first have to be sure that we are doing it ( SALVATION ) the way the BIBLE tells us to do it, then humility and steadfastness will keep us.

What signs did we miss here?
Let’s start with HOOPING. Do you think Jesus hooped? He was a quiet, peaceful, HUMBLE man. The son of God, yet He let Himself be hung on a cross for all of our sins, when He had every power to just – get down. He was about His Father’s business. He didn’t speak loudly in a practiced rhythmed cadence to entertain people, He just quietly spoke the word, truth.
The SHOW. Do you think He couldn’t have gotten a few guys to carry Him around on an elevated matt to show his superiority ( Bentley), worn robs of fine cloth with emblems saying JESUS – SON OF GOD on them, had the finest gold from all the earth hanging off of him? Jesus did nothing to outwardly show people who He was, the Son of God. He was humble, unconcerned with the temporal, focused on healing the sick and the hurting, not his ostentatious home, over the top car, designer wardrobe, or wowing his Kingdom.
Whether Eddie Long through cohesion molested young boys or not, this church should have used discernment to see their pastor was not focused on the things of God. Don’t give me that his outwardly shows of wealth were just to show God will abundantly bless you. Yes, God will abundantly bless us and He expects us to be good stewards of our money. Spending money excessively on temporal items is not what He had in mind. The “Church” should have noticed the pride on this man. It came though the door 10 minutes before he did. The physical appearance, the obsession with the perfect male body ( narcissism), the trappings of extreme wealth, the wearing of the robes to draw attention to himself, the goofy hair, the loud over the top voice, all of these things scream low-self esteem that manifests itself in false pride. It’s huge on this man……………..Church…..discernement!
I live in North Atlanta and never have attended this man’s church although I have watched him preach on TV several times. The things above are what struck me most, not the word coming out of his mouth, it was blurred by the pride the oozed from him. I had been told years ago that he “preferred men”, was discusted by it, but never gave it much thought. He was not someone who I sensed any sincerity about the Word of God from, so his actions meant nothing to me. Whether it is true or not is between him and God. If it involves children, that is a different story. Just because the state of Georgia says 16 is an age of consent, doesn’t make it right, it is wrong. These are still CHILDREN and these young boys will be scarred for life if this is true. I do agree what is hidden in the dark will come into the light. Let’s see what happens. One allegation could be suspect, but 4?
As I read though here and see the “Church” say we are under attack and this is the enemy it makes my skin crawl. The only way the devil can get to us is though an OPEN DOOR. What are they being taught at New Birth? Are they learning the actual Word and true spiritual warfare, or just throwing around scriptures where they think it fits?
Most likely the majority of the members of New Birth are going to be behind Long for several reasons. One, they have no discernment. Two, they have put all their faith in this MAN instead of God, so his fall makes them question God’s existence, truth. Three, it’s a black thing, ya’ll know what I mean. It is a tight knit group that will not admit failure on any level because it takes away from our heritage. OJ didn’t kill his wife, because he was black, Obama for president, soley on the fact that he is black. It validates our personal existence. I know, the truth is harsh, but it is the truth. The CHURCH should be about the people of God, not about skin color or heritage. The heritage should be about being the children of God, period.
Church, are you there to belong to an exclusive club, there because it is primarily a black church, there because the pastor is so charismatic, because there are many singles and your looking for a mate, what is your reason? Do you know that in an anointed church where the Pastor is truly a man of God, the anointing lies at the head. How are you going to get to the head in times of need if you are one of 25k people? Discernment. Ask God about this.
In all of this my personal disappointment comes from Bernice King. I have watched and listened to that woman preach. She is truly an anointed Saint who has been given much in wisdom, spiritual gifts, heritage. I’m so saddened that she is apart of this ministry.
Being a Christian is not easy, of course, neither was hanging off the cross. It is a daily decision to follow God. To pray, to study, to yield. We are in the end times. I seriously don’t know how the church is all going to come together, but God does. We ALL need to focus on Him, pray for discernment. He called us ALL for reason. Step away from yourself and seek Him.
As I read through all the comments some are very very good points. Some comments I couldn’t understand and wish they wouldn’t had said anything because the grammer was terrible. Some comments had no compassion for either of the parties. I’m so glad that God is nothing like us because if He was some of us would be burning in hell right now for the things we did to people ourselves. We need to think what is really needed right now the most. Prayer,prayer,prayer. No matter how this ends prayer is going to be needed not just for those involved but people everywhere. No matter what, our eyes should be on Jesus,the bible says in Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;but was in all points tempted like as we are,yet without sin. If Bishop is guilty he have to answer and if those young men are lying they got to answer as well,but as for me and my house we will serve the LORD. My eyes are upon Jesus who has NO sin at all, perfect,upright,Holy,majestic,merciful,forgiving,loving,compassionate,patient, my true all and all !!!!!!!!!!!! He said, If I be lifted up!!!!!!
May Gods will Always be done. Whats in the dark will surly will come to light.If these allegations are true,I believe the Bishop should come clean, step down and give the reigns to Bernice King. And if its GODS will, he shall be forgiven and accepted back into the Kingdom of GOD. Maybe never at the level that he was intrusted with.
But at a level that would be A blessing to the body of Christ. We have all fallen short in Sin. So brothers and sisters, Please be forgiven, as Christ has forgiven us all from OUR own SIN. Lets pray for the Body of Christ, that all Will work it self out IN GODS time. Love one another as Christ Loved the Church. PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!!!

Let’s put this in its’ correct perspective.Eddie Long is not being indicted, he’s being sued. Withholding passing judgment pending a courts’ decision is irrelevant in a civil litigation, thus we are free to express our opinions freely. Next, the Minister in me will speak. 1 Timothy Chap 3 serves a two-fold purpose. Pupose1: 1Timothy3 does provide the basic eligibility criteria that one must be meet in order to be consecretated to the office. Purpose2: 1Timothy3 also gives the criteria to be constantly judged by. Once you are consecrated into the office, you are not released from 1Timothy3. Eddie Long (guilty or not) is not blameless at this point. His congregation to include: internet, newsletters, book readers, international which i estimate well over 100,000 is more important.
Another point I would like to make is this. The NBMC is also named in the suit. For him to proclaim that he “will fight this” is an example of his self-centered, arrogant, conceited larger than life attitude. His statement should have been “we will fight this.”
I will leave you with this. God is the SOURCE, Bishops, Pastors, Evangelists whoever else are only RESOURCES.

I think the christian community should pray. I think people who speak out against homosexuality does not mask a predator spirit. If you read your bible and know God’s spirit, you will know that God is against that type of behavior. Now I said BEHAVIOR not the person. It is the act. The bible is clear in its teachings and those who follow the Lord and his teachings can not be lead astray. As for Bishop Long, I will pray for him and his family, and for the rest of you ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE HIM!
Although I am not worthy to judge anyone, I would say that these types of abuse will never stop until we give more attention to the victims vs the “accused” predators.
We, in our society, need to give the benefit of the doubt to the victims so they can be encouraged to come forward. How do we expect the victims to come forward if they feel they are going to be ignored the justice they deserve.
Just because one has power and money does not give him the right to abuse others (young or old, blacks or whites, poor or rich).
I have no sympathy for the guys or gays if its true. They were old enough to know right from wrong.Its not a right from wrong issue either.They made their choice for
the lavish living, wishing it would never end.when it ended they are crying out.If it didnt end we would never hear a word about it.What we are seeing is jealousy and rejection playing out.BREAK UP HAPPENS EVERYDAY. YOUR TIME IS OVER.

He should step-down from his position in the chruch and turn it over to more favorable hands in the meanwhile. His congregation should not be traumatized any further for his personal situations. This is his battle alone and God will take care of the rest if he is innocent. Perhaps his season is just over in the former capacity…. May the rest of his spiritual work and journey is life is self-meditation for transistion into death and beyond. It is very hard to be relevant in the midst of this kind of adversity. He needs to step aside to shelter his congregation and to perserve the sainty of the Lord within.

What a sad day for all the faithfull who go to church to learn about Jesus and their spiritual past, and to congregate with people who are of like faith and thinking.
What a sad day for all the churches who are struggling and yet fond a way to reach out to the community of those who are hurting.
Why sad, because those of shaky faith, or down trodded will have less trust in those who are really sincere.
I feel sorry for those who invested their hard earned money in this guy.
What’s done in the dark will always comes to the light, I’m a firm believer, I really don’t know all the facts. But from what I do know is that we really all need to be praying for everyone involved like many of you have stated before. It’s very said that so many people are just so judgmental. If in fact he did it God will take care of it, the battle is not ours but it’s the Lords. We need to watch and pray. We are in the last days we really are, and the people of God need to be studying, fasting, praying and loving. And from several of these post I read one thing was missing and that was compassion. Everyone is so quick to put in there two cent, but for all we know God can be testing each and every one of us.
Bishop long made his bed now he must sleep in it .you shouldn’t live a double life if you’re married love your wife. If you don’t love your wife don’t lead her on tell her you perfer a man let her go her way and you can have all the boys you want. By the way you should step down as pastor because you will mess up lots of your members heads because they will stand by u even when u are wrong. Do the right thing save your familys pride.
