Takers Beats Exorcism – “The Last Exorcism” may have won the battle, but “Takers” won the war. The film was able to overtake the horror flick “The Last Exorcism” for the number one spot and box office bragging rights last weekend. “Takers” was able to bring in $20.5 million over the course of the weekend, while “Exorcism” only brought in $20.4 million. It was a very close race, and it is hard to consider one a winner over the other. There has been some debate regarding which movie has more momentum moving forward.
“Takers” is helped along by an all-star cast. Although many originally doubted the film because two of the film’s stars (TI and Chris Brown) have very little acting experience and are trained musicians, not actors. However, it is now clear that the film suffers more from an entangled plot line than a terrible performance by anyone in the film.
Some executives at the studio hoped that a hurricane watch in Puerto Rico that delayed data collection may show that “Exorcism” came out on top. That was not the case, and “Takers” took the lead throughout the weekend.
In third place was “The Expendables,” which was able to bring in $9.5. It was a relatively good showing for the film that has been out for several weeks. The film has already made $82 million, and a sequel is already reportedly in the works that will feature another handful of action stars on top of the stars from the ensemble cast in the first film.
