Gabourey Sidibe To Host SNL April 24 – Gabourey Sidibe is set to host an upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live.
The “Precious” star will be on hand in New York on April 24 as the guest host, which will feature MGMT as the musical guest. The opportunity to host the show is the latest honor for the actress, who has been nominated for a number of awards for her acclaimed role as the title character in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.”
Sidibe has been cast for a recurring role in the new Showtime series, The Big C, which is about a teacher (Linney) struggling with cancer and trying to find humor in the situation. Sidibe plays one of her sassy students. She’ll star in the series alongside the Oscar nominee Laura Linney and Oliver Platt. The show is set to premiere in August. She will also star in “Yelling to the Sky,” which is due out later this year, according to MTV.com.
It’s been a whirlwind past few months for the Oscar nominee, but despite being the center of public criticism over her weight; the actress has found fame in Hollywood. And, it can be credited to her self-taught acting skills as she admits to not being professionally trained.
“I don’t have any formal training on how to be an actress. I don’t know any better than to stop being the character once the scene is over,” she told MTV in an interview.
