I have heard of keshia chante. I’m from her hometown. a few facts:
– she can barely sing (in her defence, i’m sure she has vocal coaches and may have improved but she still isn’t quite there). Her voice is very …. nasal and deep… weird combo, i know but… i just dont see how she’s gonna pull off aaliyah
– she can’t dance. they’ll have to work hard on that

I am a huge fan of aaliyah and always have been i think LISA TUCKER should play the role of Aaliyah not only because she looks like her but she can sing. Lisa Tucker favors Aaliyah…Keshia Chante may have one or two pictures that “kinda” look like aaliyah but ummmm not a good choice. Am I hatin no but i think if directors are going to do an aaliyah movie they should pick someone who looks similar to aaliyah. Okay, seriously, I agree that Keisha Chante is an attractive girl but OMG. She is not NEARLY as pretty as Aaliyah and I agree that the actress should not only be American, but should at least be from Detroit or Brooklyn to get that East coast feel. she does have some similarities to Aaliyah’s face, but in my opinion, she looks more like 15 year old Aaliyah than Aaliyah as a woman. Meagan Good is too dark and Stacey Dash looks nothing like her, I don’t even think Lisa Tucker looks anything like her. she’s just light skinned. Keshia Chante is a very well-known, award winning singer in Canada. her fame is the equivalent of what Beyonce has here. she was in the game since she was 14. had her first juno award winning album when she was 16 [a juno award is like our grammys] and her second was a platinum, juno award winner as well, on top of that, she has starred in a very popular Canadian sitcom entitled “The Kink In My hair” and has gotten rave reviews for her performance. and for the record, she isn’t a “junior high wannabe” as someone stated. she’s 20. just b/c you don’t know her, or her music does not mean she is a nobody. there are musicians all over the world who are bigger, and more popular than Beyonce that you’ve never heard of. you people need to get your facts straight. someone else posed a great point, J.Lo and Angela didn’t look anything like Selena or Tina but they played the heck out of their parts. give the girl a chance, I’m sure she will nail it. Lisa Tucker doesn’t look anything like Aaliyah she looks like Natalie Cole. Meagan Good, not even. When I first saw this girl in Bow Wow’s video a few years ago I was like “Aww that girl kinda reminds me of Aaliyah.” Keisha Chante is the closest looking girl to Aaliyah I’ve seen in a long time…there was this other person but I can’t remember. Plus when you have an unkown (for example J Lo) playing an icon it’s easier to see the person being portrayed. And by the way Canadians are as American as a girl from Detroit, USA. Besides do you know how many “American” movies and shows are filmed in Canada with a mostly Canadian cast? Or how many US actors play people from other countries? So, far it seems this young lady has been chosen due to her likeness to the goddess Aaliyah. All that matters now is…Can she act?

I am all the way in NZ, and there are people here that look like Aaliyah, sing like Aaliyah and dance like Aaliyah, But at the end of the day, OBVIOUSLY they will never BE AALIYAH. So when someone comes along, and wants to honour her memory, and what Aaliyah has meant to people worldwide (even in the SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE), what do her “fans” do? They can’t be satisfied with any attempt made to certify Aaliyahs memory on film.

2. I DON’T THINK MEAGAN GOOD COULD REALLY PLAY AALIYAH. I MEAN I LIKE HER AS AN ACTRESS, BUT SHE JUST SEEMS MORE “BOLD, GHETTO” THEN AALIYAH DID. SHE’S PRETTY[NO HOMO], BUT I DON’T THINK SHE COULD PULL IT OFF ALL THAT WELL.
3. I SAID STACEY DASH COULD BE COOL FOR THE PART, BECAUSE SHE KNEW AALIYAH PERSONALLY! HELL, IT WAS ONLY NATURAL BECAUSE LIYAH WAS FINNA MARRY HER BROTHER[OR MAYBE COUSIN] DAMON DASH! AND THERE’S PICS OF STACEY AND AALIYAH TOGETHER ON SOME BEACH TOGETHER TAKING PICTURES AND THROWING UP THE “ROC” SIGN, AND TRUTH BE TOLD, SHE SHOWS JUST A TAD BIT OF FAVORITISM IN FEATURES. SHE EVEN HAD THOSE EYES, LIKE CONTACTS OR WHATEVER, AND BESIDES THAT STACEY DASH IS A VERY GOOD ACTRESS. I THINK SHE COULD PULL IT OFF BETTER THAN MEAGAN GOOD.
4. CASSIE’S PRODUCERS AND RECORD LABEL WANTED HER TO GET THE PART OF AALIYAH. DIDDY WENT ALL OUT OF HIS WAY AND HIRED PROFFESIONAL ACTING AND DANCING COACHES[THE REALLY EXPERIENCED ONES] TO HELP COACH AND TEACH CASSIE HOW TO HAVE THE SWAG, THE SMILE, AND THE DANCE MOVES THAT AALIYAH HAD. AND TRUTH BE TOLD, CASSIE IS EYEING THE PART AND HAS SORT OF A “HATE” THING GOING ON WITH MEAGAN FOR WHAT REASON I DON’T EVEN KNOW. DIDDY ALREADY SAID HE WANTS CASSIE TO PLAY AALIYAH, FOR THE SIMPLE FACT THAT “SHE’S GOT SO MUCH RESEMBLANCE” TO HER, PUT IT IN HIS EXACT WORDS. THAT’S WHY CASSIE’S OFFICIAL GIRL VID WITH LIL WAYNE WAS NOT SO HOT, BECAUSE YOU COULD INSTANTLY SEE SHE WAS PICKIN’ UP THAT AALIYAH HANDBOOK AND READING IT. ACCORDING TO SOURCES, DIDDY IS A LITTLE PISSED BECAUSE CASSIE HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED FOR THE ROLE.
THAT’S THE ONLY REASON I SAID STACEY OR ALICIA COULD PASS AS CANDIDATES FOR AALIYAH; STACEY WOULD KNOW HOW TO PREPARE HER SELF FOR THE ROLE BECAUSE SHE KNEW HOW AALIYAH REALLY ACTED, SHE KNEW HOW SHE TALKED THEY CONVERSATED AND HUNG OUT SO COME ON. I SEE A LITTLE RESEMBLANCE WITH AALIYAH AND KEISHA BECAUSE OF THEIR FACES. KEISHA ALMOST HAS THAT SAME ANGELIC FACE AALIYAH HAD, BUT SHE’S JUST A A TAD BIT LIGHTER THAN AALIYAH, AND HER HAIR IS LIGHTER.

Not hating on Keisha Chante…but I think they should’ve looked for someone else. Keisha is a pretty girl in all, but she doesn’t do it for me. I think they should’ve considered Kiely Williams, not only because she has more of resemblance…but she can already SING, DANCE, and ACT. As far as I know Keisha can only sing (and most people say not that well…that’s just what I heard) and I’ve seen her dance…and it’s nowhere near what Aaliyah could do. I think Kiely would not only pull it off very well, but I think she would be able to bring “Aaliyah” to life…in a sense. But I wish the best for Keisha and I hope she brings the part great justice…PeAcE…but still wish they would have had Kiely play the part. And they say that Keisha is going through extensive training for the part and I think if they got Kiely…they wouldn’t have to work SO hard…to bring that Aaliyah swag to the table…that’s all I’m saying.

The fact that she is not american doesn’t matter to me. I’m from Detroit and went to the same school as Aaliyah, I graduated one year after her in ’98’ from DSA. Keisha shares a remarkable resemblence and she’s a singer. If she can do for this movie was J.Lo did for Selena then I’m all for it. Her nationality and orgin is no matter. J.Lo is puertorican and played a Mexican superstar and soooooooo many Selena fans were up in arms about that. But the truth of the matter is when u watched that movie it was as if Selena was reborn! If KC delivers the same results, I applaud her for it. It’s really personal to me, especially since I knew Aaliyah so I look forward to seeing how well she brings my girl back to life 🙂

I hope I’m not the only 1 that feels this way but I think that the Haughtons & Blackground Records should release a statement about the biopic to confirm everything about the movie & its release. I wish that Keshia Chante will still play Aaliyah & Bill Condon will still direct the movie. I have a lot of people in mind who could play Aaliyah’s family & friends. I think Colombus Short would be great as Damon Dash, I could see Sanaa Lathan as Diane Haughton (with the aging make-up she would still look beautiful), Allen Payne as Michael Haughton, Gary LeRoi Gray as Rashad Haughton, Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Barry Hankerson, & Anika Noni Rose as Gladys Knight. In production at the moment is a documentary about Aaliyah,. Producer Pogus Caesar plans to make the film based on rare archive footage of Aaliyah’s concert at Escape club in Amsterdam in 1995, there’s also the added bonus of Aaliyah being interviewed in American hotel and soundcheck footage.
Me being a die hard Aaliyah fan, no she doesnt look like her. She resembles her, and has her silhouette and has many of her traits, but shes not a dead ringer for her. But also, we cant tell, we have only seen pictures of Keisha Chante, we havent seen her in person. If you dress her up like her, give her Aaliyahs hair, she could do it. Angela Basett didnt look like Tina Turner, and Jennifer Lopez wasnt Tejano or Mexican, but they captured theyre roles and did good. Last week a selected few were treated to a screening in downtown Birmingham, UK. I must say the film is a classy production and will do well when it hits the theatres.
First of all, I did not know who Jennifer Lopez (JLo) was when she played Selena, i did not know anything about Selena, until she got murdered. JLo, pulled it off, the first complaint was that JLo was not Mexican, she is Puerto Rican, a lot of Hispanics thought she should not have played Selena. Sometimes it’s best to step outside the box, and you get someone that is really talented enough to play the role. I just hope that Keisha Chante, does a really great job. JLo was given less time to prepare for the movie, and i don’t even like JLo, but i like the movie (Selena) because she did a great job. I just hope that they actually put parts of the real Aaliyah in the movie, performances, give Keisha a break, people are not giving her a chance. Stacy Dash, was a good friend of Aaliyah’s, i don’t think she would want to play her good friend, that would be very hard to do. Also Stacy Dash is Damon Dash cousin, not his sister. Stacy Dash is 44 years old she still looks hella good, but she could not act or move like Aaliyah now. Just go out and see the movie and support Aaliyah’s life that she had and lost at an early age, support the dream that she once had, support her memory that’s all we can do now. She has been resting in Heaven for 9 years now, and in 9 days it will be her 32nd Birthday if she had lived. Please respect the dead and ask God to Rest her soul. AMEN. I really think Ciara should play the part. Think about it she has height, can dance really good and a pretty face with a body. Aaliyah had the same thing. I dont want to watch somebody who cant dance or just give a good performance. Megan Good cant dance for shit and her lips are just to big.
