Vanessa Williams looking lovely as ever was spotted at the “Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert” Premiere, yesterday.
Vanessa Williams was interviewed in the February issue of “More” magazine and she gives readers an inside look on her life. Here is an excerpt of her interview.
On getting older:
“In your 20s you think, I’ve got to prove something. In your 40s, you don’t. You realize you don’t have control over everything. Many times I’ve said, ‘What is the lesson I’m learning?’ It always reveals itself.”
On the pressure to succeed:
“I was the only black kid in my class and my parents said that I’d always have to excel just to be considered equal to the rest. Which was true.”
On her life trajectory:
“I look at my oldest daughter and think, ‘I was famous at your age.’ But all I had to deal with in terms of finding out who I was and speaking my mind and having it written down in perpetuity — it was a lot of pressure. I’m just thankful that I survived and got to this point. You look back and go, well, if I hadn’t done that, then I wouldn’t have gotten that. If I hadn’t met him, then I wouldn’t have these kids. It’s looking at the quilt of your life and seeing how it’s all put together.”
On her divorces and enduring love:
“My ex-husbands are part of my life. We talk and e-mail every day. I think it’s hard to have children and stop loving a person. I consider them my husbands, you know.”
On loneliness and freedom:
“I love having a partner, and I also enjoy having my freedom. But I’m never alone, and I never feel like I’m single, because I’m raising my kids. I always have someone to take care of.”
