Queen Latifah was pictured in Soho last night.
Queen Latifah is Jenny Craig’s latest spokesmodel and her campaign will be launched in January 2008.Nonetheless Latifah is not betraying the big girls because she is going to focus on a healthier lifestyle not a smaller dress size. The Jenny Craig weight-loss chain released the following statement:
“We officially confirm that Queen Latifah will join the Jenny Craig program in January,” “We are thrilled to have Queen Latifah support our mission of improving health by taking her first step toward achieving a more healthful lifestyle.”
“Queen Latifah joins forces with Jenny Craig to communicate the importance of how small lifestyle changes, in the areas of diet and exercise, can have positive effects on overall health.”
I understand the desire to lose weight, but I cannot afford Jenny Craig. It is not Queen Latifah’s fault that a large majority of her fans cannot afford such a plan, but she has always stood up and shouted that being ‘well-fed’ and thick was okay. Does Jenny Craig equates to healthy lifestyle? Maybe, but Latifah has a personal trainer, so health should not be an issue. I love Latifah, since her “Ladies First” days, when her hair was shaved on the sides and back, but I cannot help but believe that she has fallen prey to good ol “Hollywood”. I overheard 2 young girls in the hair salon, about 15 years of age, and they could not believe that their idol, was using an organized food plan to promote weight loss, after being so absolute about staying ‘as is’.
I have always thought Queen was radiantly beautiful. I also have tipped the scale at 250 but did not feel the same about myself. When Queen came on TV announcing her journey with Jenny Craig, I immediately went to the store with my food stamps and bought a months worth of portion controlled Weight Watcher Smart Ones and Lean Cuisines, Campbell’s Healthy Request Soups, Progresso Weight Watcher 0 Soups and tons of produce. I could not bear to see Queen weigh less than me so the race is on as far as I’m concerned. I’m happy for her and happy for me! I’m gonna get healthy!
